Split shipments

A split shipment ships the items in one order in more than one shipment. You split an order by moving its items into separate parcels, then creating a shipment for only some of those parcels.

When to use this

Use a split shipment when the items in an order can't be sent in the same parcel — for example when they don't fit together, when an item needs special padding, or when the items are stored in different locations.

Key concepts

Parcel — an entity that is transported or delivered from one location to another, containing one or more of the order's items

Shipment — a parcel or a collection of parcels grouped together and transported as a single unit

Split shipment — an order whose parcels are shipped in more than one shipment

Create a split shipment

Move an order's items into separate parcels, then create a shipment for the parcels you want to ship together.

Steps

Note

An order can be split only when it contains at least two separate items, and only while its status still allows the order to be edited. An item with a quantity of 2 or more can't be split across parcels.

  1. Go to Order management > Orders and select the order you want to split

  2. In Parcel items, drag an item to Drag a parcel item here or select to add another parcel, using the drag handle to the left of the item

    Tip

You can also select Add parcel to create an empty parcel first, then move items into it.

  3. Enter the weight and dimensions for the new parcel

  4. Select the checkbox for each parcel you want to ship together

  5. Select Create split shipment

    Note

The button label reflects your selection. It reads Create shipment when every parcel on the order is selected, and Create split shipment as soon as you deselect one. Deselected parcels stay on the order so you can ship them separately.

    Note

The dropdown next to the button contains Create stored shipment, which saves the shipment for later instead of shipping it now.

Result

A shipment is created for the selected parcels, and each of those parcels shows a link to the shipment. The unselected parcels stay on the order — repeat the steps to ship the rest of the order in one or more further shipments.
